A Tale by the Fire

The fire flew in splendid hues and the cold was left outside
The sky above was a dreamer's treat, the stars bedazzled the night
And I stood up and started to sing, a tale as old as time
Of heroes past and glorious kings, all in heroic rhyme
I sang and the waters sprang, and the seas they came in sight
The fire flickered and burned like towers guiding the ships in the night
The world was fay and the hearts were bold, and bolder was their feats
That the minstrels sang in hope of coin in the halls of lesser kings
Then was might and then was virtue, not against each other like swords
They were wielded like trusty spear and sturdy shield to fight the raving hordes
The fire grew faint and the specters faded and the song came to an end
Only left were the stars above that had seen all I had said
