Game of Thrones: Not a Whisper in the Wind
The immensely popular TV show Game of Thrones ended quite a while ago. Its last episode aired on May 19, 2019. It seems surreal that a show which had dominated the pop-culture landscape for so long had an end. But more surreal is the fact that nothing significant is ever talked about it.
Based on the fantasy novels A Song of Ice and Fire by G. R. R. Martin, the show settled in viewers' attention around the world for eight years. Critics praised it, audiences loved it, some parents even named their children after the characters. Everybody waited eagerly for the next episode, the next season; but now after its conclusion, everybody is silent.
And the reason for it is the ending. The ending very much ruined it all. There were ups and downs during its long run, but the majority agrees that the last season was an atrocity. Dialogues which made no sense, motivations which changed on the fly, characters known for their sharp wits acting like morons, and most especially, the biggest threat present throughout the story taken out in the most unsatisfying and unbelievable way possible.
It truly shows that in the end, it is the ending that matters. You can have a lackluster beginning and middle, but if you can stick the landing then you will be known for generations to come.
Maybe this is why Lord of the Rings and Star Wars still come up.
